Man of La Mancha...A Possible Show. An Impossible Movie.

Richard Kiley, in the original Broadway production
of 1965...since then, the role has been played,
on the stage and on tour by
Hal Linden, Robert Goulet, Raul Julia, Placido Domingo,
and Brian Stokes-Mitchell.

Joan Diener as the original Aldonza.
She also had a lead role in Kismet, in 1953.

In 1972, the movie was released...having survived
several directors, hirings and firings.
It starred Peter O'Toole as Don Quixote,
and James Coco as his servant, Sancho.
They managed to include most of the songs,
but as you can imagine, voice dubbing abounded!

Sophia Loren played Aldonza in the 1972 flick,
and even with her presence,
the movie tanked at the box office.
Go figure.
