Playlist For Sunday, August 6, 2023: Sea and Sand(wiches!)

Oy! The summer is flying! Unlike the slog of winter, this season seems to be in over-drive. This will be my last live 2 On The Aisle until Labor Day Weekend? Yup, because I'm spending the rest of August on a bike trek to Montreal. Don't worry though, Jazz90.1 will be airing "Best Of" Broadway At Its Best" recorded shows in my absence, so you'll still be able to get your weekly dose.

Yup, that's me, avec le mirror.

I use the mirror for approaching traffic and checking lip gloss.

The toddlin' town of Montreal,
where I will no doubt massacre the French language
and munch on much poutine.

But to send you off, here's a kitchen sink of Broadway Blockbusters, plus summer themes of sea and sand and ships...well, if you count FriendSHIP and SANDwiches as part of that! We'll have boats that you'd better sit down in, fishing as only Noel Coward can cast, as well as a bit of Broadway-themed honeys. I'll see you in September, on Labor Day Weekend to be exact...and hang around LIVE as long as possible.

Tune in and turn on. That seat will still be available come the fall, you know. :)

Playlist For Sunday, July 30, 2023: Sand (still) In My Stilettos

My car has about a pound of sand it in, now that the boogie board and umbrella and beach chairs have shed their "souvenirs". My toes not quite so much, but if I close my eyes, I can still hear the surf pounding away and the life guards' whistles (the utilitarian whistles at my age...nothing more). A week spent at "The Shore" will do that to a person. (Along with a fire-y sunburn and bleached hair.)

So I'm not exactly back to Homestead Reality. Yet. You know: The un-mown lawn looms like a turkey vulture, the un-paid bills glare at me sideways, and the 5 pounds that the lobster carbonara put on? Yeah, that sort of Reality.

But Broadway we must! That "pick yourself up, dust yourself off" (well, SAND yourself off) mentality, right? And because I was OFF WORK for so long (What month is this? On my drive home, I actually thought it was still June), we missed a few important natal days and anniversaries. So this Sunday we celebrate (just TRY and stop me!):

Jerry Herman, seen here with one of his favorite performers,

Charles Nelson Reilly

Laura Benanti

Jack Gilford

Audra McDonald

 Betty Buckley

and...A Chorus Line! Yup, the whole musical had a birthday. :)

So it's a Birthday Huzzah Edition. Plus a couple of wacky themes that I know you've come to expect from 2 On The Aisle. Tune in and see if I can remember what buttons to push and when to push 'em this Sunday.  And as always, thanks for listening, even when those pesky Summer schedules pull us hither and yon.

Glad to be back!

Each Tomorrow Morning (Angela Lansburg, Dear World)

I Can Do That (Wayne Cilento, A Chorus Line)

Sing! (Renee Baughman, Don Percassi, A Chorus Line)

But Yours (Jackie Gleason, Eileen Herlie, Take Me Along)

Cue Vacation Songs!

Sorry to disappoint, but I'll be vacating the cobblestone for the next 2 Sundays. On a spree to sand and surf and the errant shark, I guess! Back live on July 30, with a rowser of a show, saluting all the Broadway Birthdays I've missed. Enjoy your summering (yes, it's now a verb)...and please save me a seat! :)

Playlist For July 9, 2023: Sweaty, Steamy And...awww Shucks!

So now we're in the thick of it. Summer has hit. I see the 4th of July as the real start of the season, when sweat trickles, bugs swarm, the AC groans, and potato salad spoils. Hot damn. Annnnd love it!

No my present view, but one can manifest!

I'll be in and out of the Jazz90.1 studios in the next 2 months, but hey! You've caught a LIVE one if you're listening this Sunday, the 9th. Vacation songs, lazy hammock songs, too darn hot songs...plus samples from two extremely new to Broadway shows. One song I swore not to play (Corn) from Shucked (cuz I'm "crazy with the heat, crazy with the heat")(name THAT musical!) and Kimberly Akimbo. Plus a vehicular mini theme. And a growing older set, because we have a listener birthday to celebrate (though he remains, like Jack Benny, only 39). Put it all in your cocktail shaker, add an umbrella, and focus on tan lines.

Victoria Clark (Tony Winner for her role in this show, and Light In The Piazza) and her teenage gang at "Skater Planet" in Kimberly Akimbo.

Below, the story tellers from Shucked, Ashley D. Kelley and Grey Henson, and the saga of "Corn". Grey's appeared in the Broadway production of The Book Of Mormon and Mean Girls.

Enjoy your July. That's not an order, just a whispered-on-the-breeze exhortation. Find that summer go-to outfit, your best sunglasses, your flip flops, your cushy chaise, and LAZE.

Oh, and "radio"! ;)

Old Folks (Gil Lamb, Mildred Natwick, Company, 70, Girls, 70)

We Open In Venice (Brian Stokes Mitchell, Marin Mazzie, Amy Spanger, Michael Berresse, Kiss Me, Kate)
