The sister of Gypsy Rose Lee,
Ellen Evangeline Hovick was the lead in the
vaudeville act, "Dainty June Hovick & Company,"
as portrayed in the musical, Gypsy,
and later became a vaudeville, musical theatre,
movie and television star in her own right.
Here she is as Dainty...
...and with her older sister Louise,
who would later become Gypsy Rose Lee.
June escaped the act, and her domineering mother,
when she eloped with Bobby Reed, a dancer in the act, when she was 16.
She changed her name to Havoc, and went on
to star on Broadway in musicals like Mexican Hayride and Pal Joey,
and movies,like My Sister Eileen and Red, Hot and Blue.

The sisters became estranged after
Gypsy opened.
Later in life, she played roles like
Miss Hannigan in Broadway's Annie...
she made her home into an animal sanctuary,
and refurbished historical buildings
in Wilton, Connecticut.
