Playlist For Sunday, April 7, 2019: Those Old Cowhands

Sometimes I feel like The Countess De Lave in The Women. She was the one Mary met "on the train to Reno," she of 4 or 5 rich husbands, she who slathered over Buck Winston, the new "cowboy" on the ranch, the new "cowboy" of her dreams. Whatta life. Whether he was a real cowpoke or just dressed like one, we never found out (the cast was all-Women), but isn't that always the case? On the screen or in real life, do we ever really know?

 Paulette Goddard on the left,
who played Miriam Aarons
and Mary Boland as
The Countess De Lave.

 And for no reason whatsover,
I couldn't resist this gif of
Roz Russell going crazy in the same movie!
She must have the Reno jumpy wumps.

The romance of the West...on Broadway! Now there's a concept! Seems like I have a lot of leaning-west-of-the-Mississippi musicals, with a country feel, with a Hand Me Down That Can O'Beans attitude, and they rarely match up with City of Angels or 42nd Street or Hamilton, right? I mean, they need their own show (or shows)! So I figured it was high time for a COWBOY Edition, from the old banjo twangs of Paint Your Wagon and Oklahoma!, to the Farmer Tans of Pump Boys and the 4x4 trucks of Hands On A Hardbody.

So if you're some sorta city slicker, you will just have to hush up, cuz it's cactus time in Arizona (aka 2 On The Aisle), and we'll be doin' what comes naturally (and droppin' those ings!) on Sunday. Help yourself to some pie, put on your Old Straw Hat, and Welcome to the West (or West End Ave., whatever's closer, Countess)!
