Stand back! It's the Easter Beaster: The Easter Sunday Edition of 2 On The Aisle. Which I've sorta combined with a spring "thing", because guess what? There aren't that many Easter songs from Le Broadway Catalog. Unless you go all Hollywood and do 17 repeats of "Easter Parade." So Rain. So Sun. So blue skies, green grass, putting all your eggs in one basket, and "Don't Be The Bunny!"
Interesting Bway Trivia, that you may or may not know:
Irving Berlin could not read (or write) music. When he plunked out tunes, he'd do it on the black keys, often in the key of F#. ("The black keys are right there, under your fingers. The key of C is for people who study music.”) AND he used a transposing piano, which at the turn of a wheel, changed the key you were playing in. Supposedly, like a great pair of earrings, Berlin took his "trick piano" everywhere...even on cruises. Plus he had plenty of assistants like Cliff Hess and Hal Borne (George Gershwin interviewed for the job, but Irving turned him away..."too talented!") to dictate his songs to, working for a HOT salary of 50 cents a page. The result of NOT knowing how to write music were maybe some of the best Broadway and Hollywood tunes ever.
So to recap, last week was Broadway Death...this week Broadway rises, grows, turns peepy, changes key and springs. Hope you enjoy!
