Playlist For Sunday, July 31, 2022: Whew! Tough Times!

Well, I survived 5 grueling days at the beach. It was tough. All that lounging and swimming and sand between one's toes? Man, it was touch and go for awhile. But I "weathered" it all, and came out brown like "a nut" (I guess almond would be the nut referred to), a few pounds heavier (margaritas, lobster rolls, Springer's Ice Cream stops, which are all necessities at the shore, of course), and back to my rural existence.

Can't wait to go back. :)))

Those beach days were bookended with short Philly stays where it was "110 In The Shade". I forgot how H O T cities and their concrete and exhaust (and exhaustion) can get. So Uber here, Uber there, and eating inside, not al fresco. Only downside was the traffic jam and jelly on the way home. Which gave me time to think of a playlist theme or 7, between stops and starts for 45 minutes!

So that's my excuse for this playlist: Growing, Growing UP, Pirates (???), and little children and their (sometimes annoying) little children voices. That means Peter Pan, SpongeBob SquarePants, Matilda, Oliver!, The Sound of Music...that sorta thing. Bouncing all around to bring you a ping pong of themes and quite the collision of musical theatre. Hey, if I can take 5 days on the Jersey Shore, you can take 2 hours of Broadway nuttiness (another almond reference, I guess).

Next week, another wacky theme that I've already cooked up (the heat is gettin' to me and I actually am cooking), but meanwhile enjoy your last days of July. Dog Days are a comin'!

Playlist For Sunday, July 10, 2022: Another Op'nin, Another PayDay!

Does anyone still read blogs? Seems like everyone wants VLOGS, videos, podcasts or Youtube channels...not boring old text, with photos that don't move or sing or scream at you. But I'll keep posting them, just so you Broadway "junkies" can have a pre-show look at a playlist, and see what this dame in dreaming up.

I'm typing this on the 4th Of July, which seems like a bit of a downer this year. What with Supreme Court "shenanigans" (that's putting it mildly), I find it's pretty ill-timed to celebrate with sparklers, bbqs, and strawberry shortcake. I'd rather wear black and drink heavily, but hey! That's sorta normal for me. :)

In a way, that's why I chose NOT to do a live show this weekend. I wasn't "in the mood" to broadcast another Yankee Doodle Doo 2OTA. Not this year.

I WILL, however, muster plenty of passion for this coming Sunday's show: Openings, as in opening numbers! Often over-the-top, knock-your-socks-off, full company numbers that leave you panting. And clapping! Some opening songs,  course, can be low key-ish, and there'll be a sprinkling of those, so we can catch our breath, but you better have a gallon or 7 of O2 at hand and maybe a candy bar (I prefer PayDays) for energy restoration from 3-5pm. All those kick-lines and jazz hands take a toll.

Meanwhile, enjoy your short work week and/or your patio/fire escape/tar beach, cuz it's SUMMER. January is only a half hour away, and we need to soak this season up NOW. Pour the G&T, eat the guac, and for the gods' sake, let the weeds grow!
