Playlist for Sunday, March 30, 2014: Pretty...Classy!

2 On the Aisle goes LIVE again this Sunday...with some classic 42nd Street to start us off.  I've always loved Jerry Orbach's musical side; the Lenny Briscoe facet never did anything for me, to tell the truth.  I've also included a mini-theme of Stephen Sondheim, who did several songs with the word "pretty" in them (guess he liked that brittle little concept...not beautiful, not wondrous, but something smaller in scale.  Or was it just because it rhymed with stuff like pity and gritty and...). ANYWAY, we slide into Early in the Mornin', straight from Five Guys Named Moe, that Louis Jordan song that I love, sung here by Jerry Dixon and Your Feet's Too Big, compliments of Ain't Misbehavin's Ken Page ("Your pedal extremities are obnoxious!).  Turn that duo up!

Hope you can tune in...

Playlist for Sunday, March 16. 2014: Spring Pledge Drive at Jazz90.1

This Sunday's 2 on the Aisle is a special edition! Member Supported Jazz 90.1 is in the midst of our Spring Pledge Drive, and because of that, we will be spending a large amount of time urging folks to become new members of the station!  I say "we," because I will have a co-host with me for the hour, namely Carol Peterson, a fan extraordinaire of Jazz 90.1 and 2 on the Aisle.  We may not manage to get through the playlist below, but we will try valiantly to do so.

We're playing lots of Block Buster Broadway...from Oklahoma to The Sound of Music.. and we have a few requests: Liza! Carol! South Pacific! Hello Dolly!  If we don't chat tooooo much, we'll do em' all.  Hope you can listen, and if you're not yet a member of the station, please consider giving us a call (585 966 5299) during the show, 3 to 4:00pm, EST, and donate to "The Little Station That Could."  Thanks!

Rex and Julie in My Fair Lady (hard to believe she was only 20!)

Playlist for Sunday, March 9, 2014: The Classics Just Keep On Comin'!

Well, last week's show certainly had its share of eccentric songs and shows (read: weird!), so I thought I'd dial up the classic element this week, and play some real people pleasers.  Like "Hey Big Spender" from Sweet Charity, and "You Did It" from My Fair Lady....with Rex Harrison and Robert Coote expounding on Eliza's success at the ball.  And a request for Lauren Bacall's "Who's That Girl?" from Applause....and all I can think of is her at the age of 19 in all those film noirs of the 40s, with that hair, that stare...that everything.

And that also means including a mini-tribute to Shirley Temple, who although she didn't do Broadway, was an incredible movie musical STAR (in all caps, please!)...and where else than on 2 on the Aisle will you hear "On the Good Ship, Lollypop?"  I love it!

Hello! (Ensemble, The Book of Mormon)
Hey Big Spender (Ensemble, Sweet Charity)
Waiting, Waiting (Nancy Walker, Do Re Mi)
Old Devil Moon (Donald Richards, Ella Logan, Finian's Rainbow)
Those Were the Good Old Days (Ray Walston, Damn Yankees)
Fie on Goodness (Ensemble, Camelot)
My Own Morning (Leslie Uggams, Hallelujah, Baby!)
I Was Here (Marc Kudisch, The Glorious Ones)
Who Was that Girl? (Lauren Bacall, Applause)
One of a Kind (Len Cariou, Lauren Bacall, Applause)
You Did It (Rex Harrison, Robert Coote, My Fair Lady)
Show Me (Julie Andrews, John Michael King, My Fair Lady)
Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby? (Ensemble, Five Guys Named Moe)
Crazy 'Bout Ya' Baby (Ensemble, Forever Plaid)
On the Good Ship, Lollipop (Shirley Temple, Bright Eyes)
Goodnight, My Love (Shirley Temple, Stowaway)
