Lee Dixon, here and gone...

 Lee Dixon
was born in 1914, in Brooklyn, New York.
He was a dancer, singer and actor
in 9 films and 2 Broadway shows.
He began in Vaudeville as a hoofer!
 That's Lee on the left,
wtih Rosalind Marquis, Joan Blondell, and Dick Powell in
Gold Diggers Of 1937.
Lee played the role of Boop Oglethorpe.
 Catchy, right? :)

 Lee in uniform,
which may mean that this pic is from
the 1937 flick,
The Singing Marine.
Other Dixon films of note:
Varsity Show, Double Rhythm, and Billy Rose's
Casa Manana Revue.

Lee was known for his talent as a tap dancer,
which can be seen in the number below...

...the famous typewriter dance that
he did with Ruby Keeler to
"Too Marvelous For Words"
in Ready, Willing, And Able (1937).
For a "moving" clip of this number,
see the 2 On The Aisle Facebook page
(or YouTube, of course!).
As he approached middle age,
Lee became more and more dependent on alcohol,
and that prevented him from being hired for film roles.

As Will Parker in Oklahoma! (1943),
2nd to the left, next to Celeste Holm.
Some say that Lee created his own choreography for
his "Kansas City" number.

With John Wayne in Angel And The Badman,
released in 1947.
This was Lee's last film role.
He died on January 8, 1953...he was 38 years old.
