Urban Gorilla Kim reporting in from Philadelphia, the home of Mummers, cheese steaks, Septa, tattoos, vintage, and Gritty!
I just spent almost a month being a Phaux Phillian, taking the "47", the "57" and more Ubers than I should have (and definitely got "my steps" in, pounding pavement), and made it all work. Especially when it came to pronouncing Passyunk and Schuylkill properly, jay walking, not making eye contact, and all that shopping/eating. Seven vintage blazers, shoes, pants, earrings in a pear tree (of course), used books...plus after 27 days of incredible food, I feel like a proper sack of custard.
But I've now returned to the farm, the gym, vegetables, and...Jazz90.1, so expect a LIVE broadcast on the 15th. It's January, that gulag of a time in that gulag of an upstate, so what else is there to do but a comical edition? We've got 82 days to get through (as I type this, anyway) til April 1st, which is my landmark to fling off winter coats, mufflers, and all things thermal. This doesn't always work, but I've used this as a fling off-able date since time immemorial, and I ain't changing it now.
Sara Lee...nobody doesn't like it.
But 82 days is 82 L O N G days, and to last it we need a little laughter! So we've got Bloop Bleep, Shipoopi, Stepsisters, Sara Lee (that love song to frozen pastry), Ulla from The Producers, Michael in the Bathroom...plus mini birthday salutes to Gwen and Ethel...and a 42nd Street anthem or 7 to rouse us from our January doldrums.
Thanks to Getty, we have Gwen AND Ethel...
perhaps celebrating their birthdays together?
So "mum" along with me on Sunday; I'll bring the cheese steaks, and we'll reminisce about all that city grit I enjoy so much! :)
