Playlist For Feb. 16, 2020: Villains Most Foul

Bad guys (and dolls), mad scientists, bullies, big bad wolves, dentists (for sure!), pirates, large plants, and some royalty. Yes, this Sunday is the Villain Edition of 2 On The Aisle. Not every musical has one, or if it does, they don't always get to sing. They growl on the side lines, plotting, intimidating, and tying people to railroad tracks. But when they do sing, they're often funny, and only a teensy bit scary. So let's crack the whip, and tell 'em to Get Down!

That means Bertie Carvel (or Christopher Sieber, above) as The Trunchbull with her Chokie (and warts). That means Dorothy Loudon as "Little Girl"-hating Miss Hannigan with her bottle of gin. That means Michael Rupert's sharky lawyer in Legally Blonde. And that means a cannibal plant, voiced by Ron Taylor in Little Shop of Horrors. The baddies we love to hate.

We'll also sample the brand new to Broadway Brit Musical, Six! The wives of Henry VIII (there's a baddun for you), in pop concert with each other (yeah, they're all alive and reunited with their heads), vying for best/hottest/suffered-the-most queen. Very new and techno and poppy, so don't drop your cuppa chamomile when you hear it. It's certainly growing on me. (Like fungus and/or Audrey II.)

Anyway, I can't wait. Let's trod the boards together, or at least pretend to. You be Captain Hook, and I'll be Peter. Bring the cake. Dare ya!
