Gee, I hope you like Elaine Stritch. Because we have almost 2 hours of her coming up this Sunday. No, it's not her birthday (or her death day...I hate those), I was just gobbling up her "At Liberty" one-woman show album and thought, "Hey, I love those Stritch quips and stories and songs...wouldn't everybody else?" So I'm sort of stealing the entire show to play, bit by bit, with extra songs smushed in, just so you can keep your sarcasm titration levels high. And this is only Act I. Act II (how Elaine survives her "second act") is next week. You lucky dogs! :)
Along with that Stritchy overdose, we'll sample the Tony Nominated Best Musical for this season, Groundhog Day. Tim Minchin's take on that Harold Ramis/Bill Murray cult favorite movie of the 90s. The Times loved it, especially Andy Karl's performance (yes, he plays Phil Connors, snooty Pittsburghian weather man caught in the Time Loop From Hell), which has garnered him a Tony nod, as well. And a nice Honeymoon In Vegas set, with flying Elvis impersonators. Just in case you don't like Elaine. (Harrumph.)
So fasten your seat belts. No, that's not the fire siren...that's Elaine.
