It earned both of them Bafta nominations.
Elaine with actor John Bay,
her husband for almost 10 years,
until he passed away in 1982.
In 2002, Elaine replaced Angela Lansbury as
Madame Armfeldt in Stephen Sondheim's
A Little Night Music.

Elaine retired to her childhood home in Michigan,
leaving her Carlyle Hotel digs after many years.
She passed away in her sleep,
at the age of 89.
