First the instantly-cult film (well, almost instant)
in 1993...
now (Son Of) Groundhog Day, The Musical,
brings us a Broadway take on the same
Time Loop From Hell (aka Punxsutawney),
with Danny Rubin on book
(he assisted Harold Ramis on the original screenplay)
and Tim Minchin, words and music.
Andy Karl takes on the role of Phil Connors,
and according to Ben Brantley of the Times,
he does a super job;
he's nominated for Best Actor in a Musical.
The Rita role is filled by Barrett Doss, above with Andy.
Although he was brought low by a injury just days before the opening,
he got better fast...
like most actors, he's a quick healer.
We'll hear "Day One", below,
"Stuck" and ...
..."Nobody Cares" sung by Raymond J. Lee, Andrew Call
and Andy Karl, below.
Tim (who brought us Matilda a few years ago)
and Danny,
nominated for Best Score and Best Book (respectively)
and together, Best Musical.
We'll know "all" on June 11, the date of the Tony Awards!
Honeymoon In Vegas,
with music by Jason Robert Brown,
jumped on Broadway in 2015,
but didn't "jump" long.
YES, that is Tony Danza as mobster Tommy Korman
Brynne O'Malley as Betsey, and Rob McClure as Jack.
What's Vegas without Elvis impersonators?
And these Elvisessss sky dive!
Below, David Josefsberg as Roy Bacon
and the Flying Elvis Ensemble.
Ben Brantley liked this one, too...
he called it "a real-live, old-fashioned,
deeply satisfying Broadway musical
in a way few new shows are anymore."
Didn't help, unfortunately.
Four months and it evaporated. :)
We'll hear "Do Something," "Airport Song", and "Higher Love".
It's a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more enjoyable for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme? Fantastic work!
