Playlist for July 12, 2015: Black, Hot, in a Lunchroom Cup

Another day, another cuppa a joe. Thank the gods, someone invented this drink. It's one of the only legal, non-fat, cool things I drink. It's probably just pretend that it sharpens your thinking, heightens your athletic ability and makes you feel like you're in a Robert Mitchum black and white movie with fedoras and shadows and lunchrooms that sell blue plate specials and another piece a pie. But whatever it actually does to your gray matter, the vibe, the rep, the je ne sais quoi works for me.  So let's celebrate it, with a few Broadway coffee songs...I've played a few before (my favorite "Coffee Break" is desperate, just how I'd be if there was NO COFFEE), but hey, good songs are good songs, bub.

An ode to "Bread", which is almost as good as coffee (from Stephen Schwartz's cult favorite, The Baker's Wife), Five Guys Named Moe fooling around with "Azure Te", and a whole section of Beautiful...rounds out the show.  Of course, we have to do a little over the top Broadway, with Spamalot, but otherwise we'll stay on the down low, like Dana Andrews in Laura, dropping by the automat for another piece a pie.
