Playlist for Sunday, May 12, 2019: Mom Would Understand. Plus theatre tickets are better then flowers ANY day.

No Mother's Day show I know of starts with the Road To Hell. Stephen Sondheim might not agree with this, but let's say at least it shouldn't. So I am going to leave the mother songs to Otto and his Sunday Music Festa (noon to 2pm on Jazz90.1): Sinatra, Rosemary, Dean, Julius, et.al. I can't compete with his heart-string-tugging playlist on the Mom Dial. So I'll just say, right now, "Happy Mother's Day," and run off and play Hadestown!

 Somebody's mom

Which is up for 14 Tonys, come June 9th, and although I haven't heard all the nominees (the cast albums, in CD form, are releasing later and later), I think Hades will come home with a LOT of them. Let me know your thoughts...I find the music compelling. No clue of course if the book or the characterizations fall short, as I've yet to actually see the production, but if The Music "tells" like it did for Hamilton, this is telling me "pssst....Best Musical!"

And then I had to connect Hades with all things BAD, like bad luck (spoiler: Bad Luck for Eurydice), and another theme was born. Lady Luck, along with all the things you need her for, like poker and horse-racing and Vegas and Monte Carlo. And Love. :) So there's that. PLUS they're out there playing some sort of sport across my road, I think it's baseball (tho it could be cricket...in Kendall? Nahhhh), so I went and found 4 Broadway Does Baseball songs (discounting the over-played Yankees, damn 'em!). So these will be refreshing if censored, Jewish if Charlie Brownish.
