Born Julia Elizabeth Wells, in 1935,
Julie took the name Andrews from her step-father,
who began teaching her voice.
She evidently did not enjoy it!
Her Broadway debut in The Boyfriend, 1954.
She played Polly Browne, and received a
Theatre World Award.
More Polly...a success that brought her
to the eyes of Lerner and Loewe,
and stardom in My Fair Lady, just 1 year later.
