Broadway (and sometimes Hollywood) does Broadway!

Broadway At Its Best does Broadway (this Sunday),
even if it's from Hollywood!
James Cagney maybe gave the best "regards"
to that crazy street in
Yankee Doodle Dandy, done in 1942,
the romanticized biopic of George M. Cohan.
Below, Jimmy with Joan Leslie.
It was also adapted as a radio play (that same year)
with Jimmy, Rita Hayworth, and Betty Grable.

 The George M! version
with Joel Grey as Mr. Cohan, the King Of Old Broadway.

 Then "Lullaby Of Broadway"
from 42nd Street
with Jerry Orbach and Wanda Richert,
the 1980 Broadway production.
This song was introduced in 1935 in a little flick called
Golddiggers of 1935,
where it was sung by Wini Shaw;
it won the the Academy Award that year for
Best Original Song.
Written by Al Dubin and Harry Warren.

 "Please Don't Monkey With Broadway"
says Patti LuPone
on her album of the same title,
released just last year.
That's a song from
Broadway Melody of 1940 (below)
with Fred Astaire, Eleanor Powell, and George Murphy.
It was written by Cole Porter.

Below, a horribly fuzzy photo
of the "Monkey" routine with Fred and George.
For the best rendition, see Youtube!

We'll also hear a snippet of
"Broadway Melody"
from Singin' In The Rain's Gene Kelly...
a song from The Broadway Melody Of 1929,
composed by Nacio Herb Brown.

And our Number 1 Broadway Baby,
Elaine Stritch,
who sang that Stephen Sondheim gem
at his 75th birthday salute.
Originally from Follies (1971)!
