Playlist For Sunday, September 4, 2023: Back (to work)!

I'm back! I did indeed survive my Montreal Mania mission...20 days there and back on a bicycle, solo, 820 plus miles, and only 1 flat tire. I ate "French" for 2 nights (duck! pate! remouladidah!), suffered thru 1 1/2 rainy days, sang myself up the hills and down the dales (internally, so as not to scare the wildlife), stressed over NO DATA for 8 days in Canada, was saved by helpful strangers with (often) correct directions, and basically had a blast. I'm still having bike dreams (okay, some verge on nightmares) and can now shift gears on a dime. :) 

 

But here we are heading into Labor Day? Quelle horror. (Yeah, that's the way I spoke French in Montreal. Got lots of raised eye brows.) So we have to salute WORK! Broadway style of course, so it won't seem as tough. How To Succeed, Nine To Five, Working, that sorta stuff. If only real life jobs were more like Broadway Musical jobs, right? Or sitcom jobs. I once (tooooo many years ago) considered becoming a lawyer, and a friend said, "Sure. On a sitcom!" I'm sure they were well intentioned.

Playlist For Sunday, August 6, 2023: Sea and Sand(wiches!)

Oy! The summer is flying! Unlike the slog of winter, this season seems to be in over-drive. This will be my last live 2 On The Aisle until Labor Day Weekend? Yup, because I'm spending the rest of August on a bike trek to Montreal. Don't worry though, Jazz90.1 will be airing "Best Of" Broadway At Its Best" recorded shows in my absence, so you'll still be able to get your weekly dose.

Playlist For Sunday, July 30, 2023: Sand (still) In My Stilettos

My car has about a pound of sand it in, now that the boogie board and umbrella and beach chairs have shed their "souvenirs". My toes not quite so much, but if I close my eyes, I can still hear the surf pounding away and the life guards' whistles (the utilitarian whistles at my age...nothing more). A week spent at "The Shore" will do that to a person. (Along with a fire-y sunburn and bleached hair.)

So I'm not exactly back to Homestead Reality. Yet. You know: The un-mown lawn looms like a turkey vulture, the un-paid bills glare at me sideways, and the 5 pounds that the lobster carbonara put on? Yeah, that sort of Reality. 

But Broadway we must! That "pick yourself up, dust yourself off" (well, SAND yourself off) mentality, right? And because I was OFF WORK for so long (What month is this? On my drive home, I actually thought it was still June), we missed a few important natal days and anniversaries. So this Sunday we celebrate (just TRY and stop me!):

So now we're in the thick of it. Summer has hit. I see the 4th of July as the real start of the season, when sweat trickles, bugs swarm, the AC groans, and potato salad spoils. Hot damn. Annnnd love it!

Playlist For Sunday, June 25, 2023: Color It Gay!

Holy Moly! June is almost over? I've been biking over hill and dale, oblivious to the date and... Man, there really is a time warp! From May 1 to January 2nd, the calendar pages just fly, like they do in old movies. So much going on: social "dos", beach weekends, recreation a go go, trips near and far, outside stuff (NOT gardening, NEVER gardening)...and holidays. It all comes crashing down, of course on January 2nd, when we realize we have 3-4 months of The Gulag to face down, and the tempo of life gets molasses-y. Like a decent schmear on a bagel, fun stuff should be spread (with maximum coverage) throughout the year, right? Right.

 

 

But before one more second of June swooshes past, I want to do a Gay Pride Salute on 2 On The Aisle. Of course, every month is Gay Pride Month on Broadway, so we're always saluting it. Huzzah! But this Sunday, we'll spotlight all the colors of that Rainbow Flag...musical blues, red, pink, green, black and white (like that wonderful cookie!), plus rainbow songs annnnnd La Cage Aux Folles.
